re: Hello, my name is Helga!

Hey there,

should you ever experienced the fun to raid with Wrath of Amra, you may have noticed a TS user named "Helga"
- always/often announcing "things": certain raid mechanics, buffs, debuffs, spells, and-some-more

sometimes saying funny things, telling jokes or even singing :D

this post de-mystifies Helga :/
- so, if you like and enjoy the way "she" is, please stop reading HERE...

Helga is the Requiem Nex CombatMonitor, nothing more or less... only adapted to speak via our TeamSpeak server!

This post explains how to setup CombatMonitor (CM) to talk via TeamSpeak (TS):

1) the Connection between CM and TS

In the real world, if you want to connect two physical devices - lets say an audio source (e.g. microphone) and
an audio sink (e.g. amplifier/loudspeaker) - one needs a cable!

in the "virtual" world (PC running Windows), to connect two programs one needs a "virtual audio cable"!
there are some on the market, professional (i.e. need-to-buy) and free-of-charge ones.
I like free things, so I can only recommend one program (as I never tried any of the alternatives): VB-Audio Virtual Cable
(further down the linked page there is a [Download] button and explanation how to install this beauty...)

2) the Audio Source - CombatMonitor

All that is needed here is to navigate to the "Audio Config" tab and select "CABLE Input (VB-Audio Virtual Cable)" as Audio output device.
if you do NOT use VB-Audio Virtual Cable from above: this is the INPUT side of the virtual cable, whatever it is named in your virtual audio software!

IF you do not have an english Windows installation, you may need to change the Text-to-Speech Voice in the dropdown list (below the "Testing, 1, 2, 3")
to an english voice (e.g. Microsoft Zira Desktop) - otherwise the spoken raid announcement sound rather unnatural...
(only if you have an english Age of Conan naturally... if you use a different language I don't know
 - but wouldn't help anyone if only a few understood the TS anouncements, so an english Age of Conan is mandatory here)
[if your non-english Windows installation does not have an english voice, just google "How to download Text-to-Speech languages for Windows" and click first entry]

3) the Audio Sink - TeamSpeak client

Here you first need to create/configure a second Identity/Profile that is used for the user who is speaking:
- open Identities window (ctrl+i) and create (the green + below the identities list) a new identity with a senseful name and nickname (= username shown in TS),
but do NOT make it the default Identity, this still should be your "real" Identity
- open Options window (alt+p) and click on the loudspeaker symbol on the left
here you first need to create a new profile (green + sign below the Profile list) and just give it a senseful name, rest can stay (default settings)
then you *should* select ANOTHER playback device than what you use in your default profile; if you don't, you will always hear yourself talking in TS, annoying...
- still in the Options window click on the microphone symbol on the left - and confirm to save the changes in the playback settings!
now click on the newly created profile you want to use for this and select "CABLE Output (VB-Audio Virtual Cable)" or the OUTPUT side if you're using another virtual audio software!
then click on "voice activation" and set the threshold slider all to the left side
click [OK] when done to safe the changes and close the options window

Next is to create a favorite shortcut to use with CombatMonitor:
- press ctrl+b to open the favorites window
create a new favorite (green + button below the list) and give it a recognisable Bookmark Name, e.g. "Wrath of Amra - CombatMon)
now select the new identity you created previously - this should set the Nickname already, but you can change it here as well...
then don't forget to select the new recording- and playback profiles you created above
and finally fill in the server address/-port/password
(and optionally the starting channel, e.g. "RAID!" - but this of course varies from server to server...)
click [OK] to save the new favorites and close the window

Hurray - you're done!

from now on, just left-click on the "normal" favorite entry (so yes - you need TWO favorite entries for every server you want the CombatMonitor to speak in!)
and to RIGHT-click on the according CM-entry and select "connect in new Tab"; so you have both TS connections handled in one instance of the TS client
(you also can start the whole TS client a second time, one instance for you, the second for CM - but this tabbed solution is more lightweight)!

p.s. - the fun stuff...

via the Test Text-to-speech input field (CombatMonitor, Audio Config tab) you can enter any rubbish you want all TS user to hear, like "Yorgo - stop slacking!"
- enter the text and press the [Test TTS] button next to it!

more fun: set your Windows default audio device to your virtual Input Cable (since last Windows creator update this is as easy as clicking on the loudspeaker symbol in the taskbar)
- when playing your local audio playlist or watching youtube (music) videos, all TS users can listen :)
(beware watching porn during raids now =P)
